Social Networks Getting Started

In this blog I will be covering the basics on Getting Started using Social Networks. I will be covering the following:

• How to pick the right social network.
• How to create a Profile Page.
• Joining and Starting Groups.
• Tips on how to get traffic to your Profile.

How to Pick the Right Social Network

There are thousands of social networks for every niche possible and everyday there are more social networks created in all niches. You definitely want to be a member of all the popular social networks like MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter because think of social networks as a place where you or a similar place where people meet for social gathering you want to be where the people are. It’s also a good idea to join a couple social networks that are for your specific niche. Remember you have to go out and join every social networks in your niche only the ones with a lot of active members. Here are a few things to look for when selecting a social network:

1. Is the content on the social network related to your niche?
2. As a member can you create blogs, groups discussions, add videos, post events, etc?
3. Is the site user-friendly for even someone that has a minimal amount of technical skills?
4. Does the social network provide a positive web experience without any provocative or offensive material?
5. Most importantly are the members active?

How to Create a Profile Page

We all have heard that saying “A First Impression Is A Lasting Impression” the same goes for your Profile Page. When creating your Profile Page make sure to keep in mind your Profile Page is a direct reflection of you and your business.

1. Make sure you have a clear photo of yourself in the appropriate attire for your industry.
2. Remember your Profile page is not an advertisement page DO NOT clutter the page with all your ads. Personalize It!
3. Add any photos, blogs, and videos.
4. Add any useful widgets or apps.
5. Make your Page unique, informative and catchy.
6. Don’t put any inappropriate material on your page, if you won’t have on your desk during an important business meeting don’t put it on your Profile Page.

JOINING A GROUP

1. Search for Groups that’s related to your niche join 3-5 with the most members.
2. Introduce yourself to the group a brief description about your business and what you are looking for. (VERY IMPORTANT).
3. Send a friend invite to the person that created the group.
4. Invite all your friends to join the group.
5. Add any featured members as friends.
6. Reply to all new introductions done by new members.

STARTING A GROUP

1. Write a brief description of the purpose for the group.
2. Select a name and photo for the group.
3. Introduce yourself and welcome everyone to the group.
4. Add a RSS Feed or widget that adds updated information about the group’s niche.

GET TRAFFIC TO YOUR PROFILE

1. Go to other members’ page and leave a comment and a friend request on their profile.
2. Make sure the comment have the following: simple introduction, a personalized greeting mentioning their name, website, or business name, and a signature box.
3. Leave as many comments and friend request as you can on 3-5 daily per social network.
4. Create videos of you demonstrating your product or service.
5. Create videos with customer testimonials about your product or service.
6. Reply to blogs and forums 3-5 daily per social network.
7. Provide useful information about your niche, product updates, industry news, etc.
8. Work the room be an active member get noticed.
9. Be Consistent.

Remember just because you are networking online not physically going to a networking event some of the same principles apply such as First Impression is a Lasting Impression, Go Where People Go, Work the Room, Be Engaging and Informative, Be Consistent.
